Excitement building for LibrePlanet! Sign up before it fills up!

It’s only a month before LibrePlanet 2013: “Commit Change” and the campaigns team is in a flurry of activity, putting the finishing touches on the conference plans. People are registering quickly and it’s great to see how much everyone is looking forward to the conference.
Want to be part of LibrePlanet 2013? It’s March 23-24 at Harvard University. Register now. Remember, it’s gratis for FSF members and discounted for students.
Since our last email, the program has grown a lot, now including:
Leslie Hawthorn, community manager at Red Hat
Upstream University, a seminar where developers will learn to contribute more successfully and efficiently to free software. (This requires separate registration. Space is limited!).
An exhibit hall of free software organizations and companies
Rubén Rodriguez from Trisquel, the FSF-endorsed fully free GNU/Linux distribution
And of course Richard Stallman and Karen Sandler (executive director of GNOME) will still be there to anchor the conference.
One more thing: only people who register before March 6th will be able to order a LibrePlanet 2013: Commit Change t-shirt. These shirts are a great way to show off your love of free software during the conference and start conversations afterwards. So if you want to represent LibrePlanet with a spiffy t-shirt, don’t wait to sign up.
Hope to see you at the conference! If you’re going and would like to connect with other attendees, check out the #libreplanet IRC channel on irc.freenode.org.

Rajasthan Education specifies proprietary software for its 56000 laptop distribution bid Inbox

Dear all,

free software users,
We have earlier engaged with cases (including writing to education departments in cases where proprietary software has been stipulated in procurement documents / syllabi / programmes etc.)

Rajasthan government which plans to distribute 56,000 laptops to students has specified proprietary software (Adobe Professional writer, Microsoft Office professional) in its bid document. Final RFP document and a letter drafted by us on   http://www.itforchange.net/Letter_Rajasthan_government_Laptop_purchase_feb2013

Pls share your thoughts/suggestions. Are there any members in Jaipur who can meet the education dept officials and explain to them as well

Python Trademark at Risk

Dear All,

Full article:

There is a company in the UK that is trying to trademark the use of
the term “Python” for all software, services, servers… pretty much
anything having to do with a computer. Specifically, it is the company
that got a hold on the python.co.uk domain 13 years ago.

According to our London counsel, some of the best pieces of evidence
we can submit to the European trademark office are official letters
from well-known companies “using PYTHON branded software in various
member states of the EU” so that we can “obtain independent witness
statements from them attesting to the trade origin significance of the
PYTHON mark in connection with the software and related
goods/services.” We also need evidence of use throughout the EU.

Further instructions on how to submit letters of support are in the
blog article linked above.

Please help defend python trademark.
